Ingredients
    Brown Sugar Cookie Bars
  • ½ cup Salted Butter, browned

  • ½ cup C&H® Dark Brown Sugar
  • ⅓ cup C&H® Granulated Sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour 

    Brown Sugar Buttercream
  • ¼ cup Salted Butter

  • ¼ cup C&H® Light Brown Sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 cups C&H® Powdered Sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons Milk
  • Optional Vanilla Flaked Salt for Topping

Brown Sugar Cookie Bars

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 F. Spray and line an 8x8 baking pan with cooking spray and parchment paper and set aside.

Step 2

Start by browning your butter. In a medium saucepan, over medium-low heat, stir and melt your ½ cup of butter. After if melts it will begin to foam at the top. The milk solids will separate from the liquid and fall to the bottom of the pan, turning an amber or  brown color. This should take about 5-8 minutes. As soon as it browns, remove from heat and allow to cool.

Step 3

Add browned butter, C&H® Dark Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar to a medium mixing bowl and mix until smooth. Add in egg, egg yolk and vanilla and mix again.

Step 4

Stir in salt, cornstarch, cinnamon and flour until all combined. 

Step 5

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth out the top. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until lightly golden brown along the edges. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. 

Brown Sugar Buttercream

Step 1

Make the brown sugar buttercream by adding your butter and C&H® Light Brown Sugar to a small saucepan. Stir over medium heat until boiling. Remove from heat and pour into a medium bowl to cool. Once cooled, add in C&H Powdered Sugar, cinnamon and milk. Beat together until it’s all smooth.

Step 2

Spread the brown sugar buttercream over cooled cookie bars. Sprinkle the top of the bars with flaked salt. 

Step 3

Cut into squares and enjoy!
