Ingredients
  • 1 Tablespoon Unsalted butter

  • 2 cups Diced yellow onions
  • 1 Tablespoon Minced garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon C&H® Premium Pure Cane Granulated Sugar Easy Baking Tub
  • 1 (8-oz.) package Cream cheese, at room temp
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise 
  • 2 cups Shredded Gruyère cheese 
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh thyme leaves, plus more for garnishing
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly cracked black pepper

    Toasts or crudité, for dipping

Instructions
Prep Time: 10 minutes / Cook Time: 50 minutes / Yields: 8 servings
Step 1

Add the butter to a skillet set over medium-low heat. 

Step 2

Once the butter has melted, stir in the onions, garlic and sugar. Cook the onions, stirring frequently, until they are deep golden brown and caramelized, about 30 minutes.

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Step 4

Transfer the onions to a large bowl then stir in the cream cheese, mayonnaise, Gruyère cheese, thyme leaves and black pepper.

Step 5

Transfer the dip into an 8-inch skillet or oven-proof baking dish, smoothing it into an even layer.

Step 6

Bake the dip until it is warm and bubbling, about 15 minutes.

Step 7

Change the oven to the “BROIL” setting and set the top rack about 4 inches from the top of the oven.

Step 8

Broil the dip until the top is golden brown, about 2 minutes. 

Step 9

Remove the dip from the oven and serve it warm with toasts or crudité for dipping.
