Make A+ Classroom Snacks with C&H® Sugar
School is back in session, and you know what that means: it’s time to start thinking about your classroom treats! But before you get started in your kitchen, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure your school snacks are safe to share, sanitary and absolutely delicious.
Keep Your Treats Allergen-Safe
You need to ensure your snacks are safe for the whole class. Over the last few decades, food allergies have been steadily increasing, so you need to be careful about what ingredients you add. Many teachers will supply parents with their class allergy list, but a good rule of thumb is to avoid recipes with peanuts or tree nuts.
Also, most classes will have a least one student with a dairy or gluten allergy, so it’s better to use safer ingredients like soy milk and gluten-free flour.
The Right Snacks for Every Classroom
When it comes to picking the best classroom treats, there are few things to consider, such as class size and nutritional value. We recommend opting for recipes that you bake in batches. This will help you prepare enough snacks for the whole class to share.
To help you get a jumpstart on your recipe homework, we’ve prepared a list of school-friendly snacks that are simply great for any class.

Get Your Treats Ready for School
Once you’ve selected and made your back-to-school treats, it’s time to get them ready to take to class. For hygiene and ease-of-passing-around reasons, we recommend individually packaging each one in saran wrap or plastic bags. This will help keep your treats clean and safe, as well as preserve their freshness.
Also, we recommend transporting your individually wrapped snacks in a sealable container. While a plastic container with formed sides and a snap-close lid is the ideal choice, many parents prefer to use disposable options. If this is more your style, try using a foil cake or cupcake pan with a plastic lid. This inexpensive option is great for school snacks. Just send it to the classroom, and have the teacher toss it after all your back-to-school snacks are gone.
